..:: College Information
Headed to college? Want to play collegiate sports?
If this sounds like you or someone close to you, then its probably
time to get started promoting yourself. High School sophomores should begin planning now. Showcase tournaments draw
coaches from around the country to see sophomore, junior and senior players in action. Their greatest interest in the
early fall season is on the seniors. As the year progresses, the juniors start to receive attention as the next year's
recruits. Sophomores who have been active in showcase tournaments and local programs, such as ODP, will be receiving
attention from the colleges, since they have had early exposure. The reason to establish a plan early is to invite
coaches from the colleges that you are interested in to attend the showcase tournaments that cost dearly to play in
and travel to. See my Personal Portfolio page for a tool
to contact and attract college coaches to your games.
Oklahoma does receive more attention today than they did just a few years ago, but not nearly as much as some of the
southern areas and the coasts. The cost of attending a college of your choice, especially out of state or private,
can be mind boggling. In order to qualify for scholarship money for academics or athletics is based on your grades
first and foremost! Your abilities place second. Coaches can't seriously talk scholarship until admissions has had a
chance to look at the student. Another reason to start your search early is to help you make your choice quickly while
scholarship money is still available. A couple of great resources are the
Sports Source manual, which is full of information
about the schools and their programs, and my
Personal Portfolio package; a useful tool, sent along with your resume to get early attention.
